Renowned for it's clifftop walks around the miles of unspoilt coastline, Hope Cove is actually two connected villages known as Inner Hope & Outer Hope. Remotely situated, its population once relied heavily on the sea for their livelyhood, fishing particularly for pilchards & mackerel but thesedays the remaining fishermen concentrate mainly on crab &  lobster.

There are many watersports on offer locally. Sailing is of course extremely popular in this are but you can also hire a powerboat or jet-ski & explore the coves of Bigbury Bay. The nearby beaches of Bantham & Challabrough are also renowned with surfers & windsurfers alike for consistently good waves.

The documented origins of Hope Cove in Devon date back as far as 1281 with a rich maritime history. Hope Cove has seen many shipwrecks including the Spanish ship, St. Peter in 1588 & HMS Ramilles in 1760 - once a secret place for smugglers, Hope Cove is now a delightful & popular holiday destination which shouldn't be missed on a trip to the South Hams!
